Working together on interdisciplinary topics and leaving one´s own familiar research terrain implies a common understanding of what interdisciplinary research actually means (to us):

    • creating an environment in which interdisciplinary and therefore innovative research can take place
    • developing joint research questions and replies accordingly,
    • developing integrative research methods,
    • ensuring compatibility of findings as well as knowledge transfer and integration.

In the medium term and with coordinating support from the Office for Guest Scientists ideally research teams with national and international researchers from sciences, social sciences and humanities can be developed, continuing the collaboration and being nuclei of interdisciplinary and international marine science in Northwestern Germany.

This also includes interdisciplinary and international project development, leading to a network for exchange and support in the long run that maps the international and interdisciplinary landscape of NWVM.

The conference in November 2013 was the starting point for interdisciplinary development of research topics and the design and development of further activities, linking interdisciplinary and international spheres of action.
